Publication Ethics

The Global Journal of Engineering Science & Technology (GJEST) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of ethical publishing, transparency, and academic integrity. The journal provides a global platform for the dissemination of high-quality research in engineering, science, and emerging technologies, with a strong emphasis on originality, technical rigor, and ethical responsibility.

GJEST strictly adheres to the principles and best practices of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and expects all stakeholders—authors, reviewers, editors, and the publisher—to comply with these ethical standards.

Publication Ethics for Authors

Authors submitting manuscripts to GJEST must adhere to the following ethical guidelines:

  • Manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration by any other journal at the time of submission. Any overlap with previously published work must be clearly disclosed to the Editor.

  • All listed authors must have made significant intellectual contributions to the work and approved the final manuscript prior to submission.

  • Authors are advised to reach an early agreement on authorship order and individual contributions.

  • Manuscripts must be free from plagiarism, data fabrication, falsification, or inappropriate image manipulation. The journal follows a zero-tolerance policy toward plagiarism.

  • All authors must declare any conflicts of interest, whether financial or non-financial.

  • Any funding sources, grants, or institutional support must be clearly acknowledged.

  • Research involving human participants, human data, or human tissues must have received formal approval from an appropriate ethics committee, and informed consent must be obtained where applicable.

  • Research involving animals or human subjects must comply with local, national, and international ethical and regulatory standards.

  • Authors are responsible for ensuring that their research complies with engineering safety standards, environmental regulations, and societal responsibilities, where applicable.

Copyright Notice

Authors who publish with the Global Journal of Engineering Science and Technology agree to the following terms:

  1. Authors retain the copyright of their work and grant the journal the right of first publication.
    The published work is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial–NoDerivatives (CC BY-NC-ND) License, allowing others to share the work for non-commercial purposes with proper attribution and without modification.

  2. Authors may enter into separate, non-exclusive agreements for distributing the published version of the article (e.g., institutional repositories or book chapters), provided that acknowledgment of its initial publication in GJEST is included.

  3. Authors are permitted and encouraged to post their manuscripts online (e.g., personal websites or institutional repositories) before and during the submission process to promote scholarly exchange and enhance citation impact.

Publication Ethics for Peer Reviewers

Peer reviewers are expected to uphold the integrity of the review process and follow these ethical responsibilities in line with COPE guidelines:

  • Review manuscripts only within their area of expertise and when they can provide a timely and thorough evaluation.

  • Treat all manuscripts as confidential documents and not disclose any information about the manuscript or review process.

  • Not use unpublished material or ideas obtained through peer review for personal research or benefit.

  • Declare any potential conflicts of interest to the editor immediately.

  • Ensure reviews are objective, unbiased, and fair, without discrimination based on gender, caste, creed, race, religion, nationality, or political beliefs.

  • Provide constructive, clear, and respectful feedback aimed at improving the manuscript.

  • Complete reviews within the specified timeframe to support efficient editorial decisions.

Editorial Responsibility and Ethical Oversight

The editorial board of GJEST is responsible for:

  • Making publication decisions based solely on scientific merit, originality, clarity, and relevance to the journal’s scope.

  • Ensuring a fair, double-blind peer review process.

  • Addressing ethical complaints, allegations of misconduct, and disputes following COPE flowcharts and procedures.

  • Publishing corrections, retractions, or expressions of concern when necessary to preserve the integrity of the scholarly record.

Malpractice and Retraction Policy

The Global Journal of Engineering Science & Technology (GJEST) is committed to upholding the highest standards of academic integrity and ethical publishing. Any form of publication malpractice is treated seriously and addressed in accordance with the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines.

Publication Malpractice

Publication malpractice includes, but is not limited to:

  • Plagiarism in any form

  • Data fabrication or falsification

  • Duplicate or redundant publication

  • Citation manipulation

  • Authorship disputes or misrepresentation

  • Undisclosed conflicts of interest

  • Ethical violations in research involving humans or animals

If malpractice is suspected or reported at any stage of the publication process, the journal will initiate an investigation following COPE procedures.

Actions in Case of Malpractice

Depending on the severity of the misconduct, the journal may take one or more of the following actions:

  • Rejection of the manuscript

  • Request for clarification or correction

  • Withdrawal of the manuscript during review

  • Publication of a correction or expression of concern

  • Retraction of the published article

  • Notification to authors’ affiliated institutions or funding agencies

  • Blacklisting of authors for future submissions (in severe cases)

All decisions are made with fairness, transparency, and due process.

Retraction Policy

The journal may retract a published article if:

  • Clear evidence of plagiarism, data fabrication, or falsification is identified

  • The findings are unreliable due to serious methodological or ethical errors

  • The article has been published elsewhere without proper disclosure

  • Ethical approval or informed consent requirements were not met

  • There is evidence of manipulation of the peer review process

Retraction Procedure

  • Retractions are issued by the Editor-in-Chief after a thorough investigation.

  • A retraction notice will be published, clearly stating the reason for retraction.

  • The original article will remain accessible on the journal website, clearly marked as “Retracted”, to maintain the integrity of the scholarly record.

Plagiarism Policy

The Global Journal of Engineering Science & Technology maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward plagiarism and unethical research practices.

Plagiarism Screening

  • All submitted manuscripts are screened using Turnitin plagiarism detection software.

  • Authors are responsible for ensuring that their manuscripts are original and properly cited.

Similarity Threshold

  • The acceptable similarity index is less than 10%, excluding:

    • References

    • Bibliography

    • Properly quoted material

    • Commonly used technical terms

Plagiarism Assessment Criteria

  • Similarity ≤ 10%: Acceptable for review (subject to editorial judgment)

  • Similarity > 10%: Manuscript will be returned to authors for revision or rejected

  • High similarity or direct copying: Immediate rejection and further ethical action

Post-Publication Plagiarism

If plagiarism is discovered after publication, the article will be subject to correction or retraction in line with the journal’s Malpractice & Retraction Policy and COPE guidelines.

Author Responsibility

Authors must submit a declaration confirming that:

  • The manuscript is original

  • The work is plagiarism-free

  • All sources are appropriately cited

Failure to comply may result in rejection or retraction of the manuscript.
